14 year old music-loving Daniel Hassan from High Heaton spent the first six months of 2021 in Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary after being diagnosed with a one in a million condition at Christmas which left him paralysed from the waist down. Amazingly Daniel recently left the hospital on crutches and although his journey is far from over his love of music has continued.
As part of our Holocaust Memorial Day Trust Who Holds the Torch? event Daniel joined our Associate Artists Kema Kay and Magpie via Zoom to create a rap called Day by Day a song about hope and being a light to others. On Saturday 26 June 2021 Daniel was able to join Kema at Blast Recording Studios, with support from funding from Youth Music, to record three original songs which we can't wait to share with you very soon. We want to wish Daniel all the best with his ongoing recovery and can't wait to work with this talented musician again.
"It was Daniel's dream in hospital to record his songs. This has kept him going. Thanks to Claire, Kema and Skimstone Arts for helping him realise his dream." Daniel's Mum
