My current role is Cultural Development Manager for the County of Northumberland. I have overall responsibility for strategic cultural development including the arts, creative industries, cultural education, heritage development, strategic festivals and events.

From 2006 – 2011 I was director for public art and design agency Inspire Northumberland, I advised on numerous capital projects and initiated many community education programmes. I gained an invaluable understanding of strategic partnership working with the public and private sectors and managed over 140 artists in connection with over 80 projects. The largest project I delivered was award winning Sean Henry’s Couple, the first offshore sculpture in the UK. It was the cultural focus of a £9.6m sea defence scheme in Newbiggin by the Sea.

I have experience of the regional performing arts environment having been based in two regional theatre / arts centres, Customs House and Darlington Arts Centre. I curated the gallery exhibitions programmes of local, national and international artists and managed the Darlington Borough’s Art Collection.

I started as a freelance artist collaborating with architects on feasibility studies with schools and communities and delivering innovative projects as Artist in Education for Tyne and Wear Museums. From the mid 90s I worked as a curator and freelance arts consultant and developed a proven track record of delivering quality arts education programmes in schools.

I have over 20 years experience in the cultural sector and have a postgraduate diploma in arts and cultural management and a fine art degree.
